The honest guide to repairing your credit

Credit repair means correcting inaccurate information and building healthier credit habits—not erasing truthful history.

Important: This guide is educational and is not individualized legal or financial advice.

Begin with all three reports

Review the personal information, accounts, balances, payment history, collections, and inquiries on each report.

Separate errors from negative facts

An unfamiliar account, wrong balance, duplicate debt, or payment incorrectly marked late may be disputable. Legitimate negative history generally cannot be removed simply because it hurts your score.

Use a simple process

Work methodically and keep copies of everything.

  • Identify each specific error.
  • Gather records supporting your position.
  • Dispute with the reporting company and information provider.
  • Track delivery dates and responses.
  • Review the corrected report.

Build forward

Pay every bill on time, keep revolving balances manageable, avoid unnecessary applications, and give accurate negative information time to age.
